Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in Queensland's southeast were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the area, producing strong winds reaching over 100 km/h.
Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction
Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Response teams were working to restore power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.
Victoria's Climate Difficulties
Meanwhile, approximately 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced power outages after the capital city experienced its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.
Rescue organizations received 598 calls for help across the area, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.
Climate Outlook
Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both states.
Safety Concern
Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
This caution comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
