A Number of Affected as In-Flight Disturbance Hits A Delta Airlines Flight into Sydney, Australia
Several people have been injured after a Delta flight traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by turbulence on Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson informed. Several cabin crew members required medical attention.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service said they assessed five patients, and transported a trio to a medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries that such as spinal discomfort and head pain. The patients' ages were between their 30s to 70s.
The event represents the most recent case of planes being hit by turbulence, with researchers saying that global warming is a significant contributor.
The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the representative added, clarifying that the plane touched down "safely" at Sydney Airport at 06:48 local time on the day in question.
Emergency responders said they received a call just only 180 seconds before the plane landed, and response teams were standing by on the runway.
The reasons turbulence is becoming more common - and often stronger.
In the previous year, twenty-five passengers and crew were injured when a Delta Airlines flight, on a route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, encountered "significant" rough air just two hours into the lengthy trip, and diverted for an emergency landing.
